FOLK Minute | Updates and news from Folklore BR 2024
Welcome to the Folklore Festival, BR! I’m Anderson Awvas, speaking to you from Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais. I want to share some updates from the Folklore BR project over the past six months, including developments in my career and those of my colleagues. For newcomers, stay tuned for an invitation to join us live soon! As we wrap up the first semester of 2024, it's been a busy time with various projects. I recently posted about our activities on social media, and while we haven't launched a new podcast season yet, we're working on it. This semester has been chaotic with multiple events, like Ian Fraser launching his books at the Bienal da Bahia and Lorena Herrero's new comic "Sétimos Filhos." Micael Kids is involved in numerous global game projects, while Andriolli Costa has started teaching at a university in Rio de Janeiro. I also contributed to an Afro-futurist anthology featuring comics grounded in folklore, which I've been promoting on my social media. "Vila Abarca," an animated series by the Iluminuras studio, is also in production, and I'm excited to be part of it. Additionally, we have "Aço Caipora," another animation project, in development. Looking ahead, we are gearing up for the Parintins Folklore Festival on June 29-30. You can watch it with us live and participate in discussions as it unfolds, just like we've done in the past two years. We encourage everyone, especially those who haven't experienced the festival before, to join us for an engaging commentary. On June 25, entries open for the 2nd "Siri só Mando Arte" independent cinema showcase, connected to our event "Somando Visões." If you have a short film related to Brazilian folk culture, be sure to submit it. Lastly, we’re returning with the "H Folk" cultural news program on July 14, which will summarize the first semester’s events, and we’re also revisiting RPG sessions that explore Brazilian culture. Stay connected with us through our various platforms. If you'd like to support Folklore BR, consider becoming a backer, starting from just R$5, to help keep our projects alive. Thank you for being part of our journey!
